Gut health – it’s a weird word “gut”…kind of gross, doesn’t roll of your tongue very nicely, does it. But really what it is, is your digestive/GI tract. And honestly, it should be our number one priority; especially with what’s going on in our country today. Let me preface before I go any further that I am not a medical professional and I make no claims at all. But, what I do have is experience and some research.
Okay so now that I can continue on, the phrase “you are what you eat” rings more true than you think. Throughout this blog, you will run into many posts of mine that surround health and wellness. You will read me preaching to you about maintaining good gut health because I care about you. I want you to be healthy. I know because I suffered from horrible digestive issues my whole life – just ask my Mom. She used to think it was just me trying to get out of doing the dishes after dinner. But I have been utilizing a very high quality gut health plan for over 2 years now, and when I am consistent with it, I feel amazing! I will teach you along the way because soooooooo many things are affected by our gut health. A lot of people “think” the brain is the epicenter of our bodies, but I firmly believe, based on my research, it’s our gut.
This short list is what I hear my friends and family “complain” about almost daily. (Every day in my social media feeds I see one or more posts regarding these issues!) I use that term “complain” loosely for lack of better words, but these are the top 7 issues that surround my friends and family and yet, it could potentially be taken care of by maintaining a good, healthy GUT. I am just going to post the list today and a couple little “quips”, but we will dive into these reasons in later blog posts. If you have questions about one of these, and I haven’t covered it yet, PLEASE reach out. Do not wait. Without further ado:
Top 7 reasons you should check your gut health:
#7 – You are having skin and/or hair issues
#6 – You are experiencing digestive issues (including but not limited to diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gas)
#5 – You are experiencing metabolism/weight management issues
#4 – you are having sleep issues (side note – did you know that 80% of our hormone melatonin is in our gut?)
#3 – you are experiencing headaches (obviously this isn’t all inclusive there are tons of reasons for headaches but this could be a reason)
#2 – you are experiencing mood or mental health issues (including depression, anxiety, autism. Hopkins Medicine and Web MD also site that there is a brain-gut connection. Let me know if you would like to be plugged ito some resources and experiences regarding this.) https://thehearth.net/the-connection-between-gut-health-mental-health/
and the #1 reason to check your gut health is your immune system! Up to 80% of our immune system is IN OUR GUT! Web MD and Hopkins Medicine both site that a huge proportion of our immune system is actually in our GI tract. Here is a great slideshow to quick look at:
I absolutely love writing about this stuff and helping people sift through it. I can also share with you my absolute fave probiotic and why I firmly believe it helps with many experiences both from me and my family members! Just ask me!
Sending many blessings for health and happiness! Have a great weekend!
